[ Veon x Industry Icons ] – Mr. Felix Bieger

Lunch with Felix Bieger

Our Managing Director – Veon was excited to have lunch with our industry icon, Mr. Felix Bieger at The Chesa,The Peninsula Hotels Hong Kong, to hear his stories from the day he joined The Peninsula Hotel Group in 1953 until today. After 67 years with the Company, he still travels early in the morning from his residence to go to the office as its Advisor.

When asked about what motivates him, he said “Choose a job you love” and “I only count the sunny hours.” In citing the Sun-Dial device which only tells the time of the day when there is sunlight, this ancient Latin motto brightens his day. Our industry has been through many downturns and each time the sunny days appeared and we became stronger. We must keep our faith and do what we do best by continuing to improve ourselves

Mr. Bieger’s work goes beyond his passion and she admires his positive energy. He is sentimental about the memories he had with his guests and colleagues, and he kept his jovial sense of humour throughout lunch. What a good role model for people of all ages to follow.

We asked him if we were to turn back the clock, would he still choose hospitality industry as his career. His answer was “I would do exactly the same”.

[Veon x Industry Icons] – Giovanni Angelini

Hotelshr Veon Lunch with Giovanni Angelini

Giovanni Angelini started his hotel career 58 years ago and his “passion” for the industry continues to be strong and dedicated even as of today. In summarizing his successful career, he used “caring about people”, “understanding the true potential of people”, “bringing the best out of people” and “giving them the best opportunities to realize their aspirations” as his success formula to earn the respect of his people. These are such important values employers can offer to make their employees more successful in advancing themselves.

[Veon x Industry Icons] – Paul Tchen

Hotelshr Veon Lunch with Paul Tchen

It was great catching up with Paul Tchen last week. Our Managing Director – Veon has known Paul for many years and he has always impressed her. His personal passion and commitment to the charitable cause and his genuine care for people are testimonies to his excellence in leading and performing his current role.

Paul had this meaningful job all made up for him when he became Honorary Chair of Shanghai K Charitable foundation in November 2017, and this was after his 25 years of corporate and senior management positions at the Peninsula Hotels.

The Foundation is dedicated to education and training and helping underprivileged young people receive hospitality technical training and life skills in their late teens to early twenties to learn a trade and become self sustaining at the Sir Horace Kadoorie Youth Development Centre in Shanghai.

We are happy for Paul and we believe at his stage in life, there is a higher mission than work and we will be very happy to help his graduates find good placements within the hotel industry in the future. We are sure our industry colleagues will be able to contribute and give this charitable Foundation their best support too.
